Tasting Success: Izzy’s Path from Content Creator to Social Media Manager

You joined The Social Co six months ago now. What was it that attracted you to joining our team?
I had followed The Social Co since leaving university around 3 years ago and knew it was somewhere I’d love to work. Seeing all of the different campaigns and clients that they had worked with, I knew it was a company I’d love to be a part of.
Initially joining as a Short-Form Content Creator, what did a typical day in the life look like in that role?
The role involved being on a shoots for clients or other projects, editing, brainstorming ideas with the team – no two days were the same!

Recently, you decided you wanted to work on projects in more detail as a Social Media Manager rather than just being behind the camera – what were the key factors behind this?
I enjoy capturing and creating the content, but I found myself wanting to contribute to clients’ from a more strategic approach. Understanding brand goals, planning campaigns and seeing what works can be really rewarding being involved in shaping a client’s journey.
Outside of The Social Co, you run a growing food review page. How did this project come about?
Like everyone, I always took pictures of my food when I was out. At the time when I started the page, I lived in Newcastle for university, so the options for going out were endless. I had followed a few pages before, and my partner actually suggested making the pages just for fun, and honestly I didn’t think it would have grown as much as it has.

Which skills or experiences from running your own page would you say have helped you succeed in your time so far at The Social Co?
Creating content for the page gave me insight into styles that work for engagement. People love a story and being able to find a good hook for the start of a reel is crucial for keeping people’s attention.
When you’re not out dining or working, what do you do to switch off from social media temporarily?
In my free time, I spend a lot of time focusing on exercise (which is needed with all of the food haha) and wellness. This can be through reading, spending time with friends and family, and cooking.

We work in a very fast-paced environment. How do you stay on top of trends and find new inspiration?
I find the best way to stay of top of trends is to just consume. As most 24 year olds, I do spend a lot of time on my phone, especially on social media. I follow a lot of creators, who specialise in a mix of interests, which is crucial when you work with clients in different industries.
What would you say has been your favourite project you have worked on so far at The Social Co?
There has been such a mix of projects, but one highlight has been working on content for NUFC. It is so interesting to see the behind the scenes of such a huge club, and being a small part of their journey.

What would be your advice be to an aspiring Short-Form Content Creator or Social Media Manager?
Enjoy the process! Creating content is so fun, whether this is for yourself or a client. Understanding trends and the audience is key so always try and put yourself in their shoes.
Looking into the future, what are your aspirations both at The Social Co and with your food page?
At The Social Co, I hope to keep growing and developing both personally and professing, and working with my clients to develop their presence online. We are such a growing team, and there is always something to be learnt from others.
For my page, I’d love to keep expanding the community I have developed, and providing local businesses with a platform for recognition.
